Have Your Say - Economic Recovery

Your views on: Economic Recovery

The United Kingdom has now been in a recession for over a year. To help revive and regenerate the local economies, Adur District and Worthing Borough Councils are undertaking a joint scrutiny review on economic recovery in both Council areas.

As part of this review a small Working Group comprising six Council Members (three from Adur Council and three from Worthing) is currently investigating how the Councils are already supporting businesses, the community and housing towards economic recovery and how the Councils can further support businesses and housing towards economic recovery. The Working Group aims to present its findings to both Councils in March 2010.

The Working Group is keen to gather as many views as possible from people, businesses and organizations in both Council areas to assess what is being done and what can be done to assist the communities in economic recovery. Your views are very important to the Councils and I would be grateful if you could take the time to let the Councils have your views to help them tackle this very important issue

The Working Group is also keen to speak directly with people about how the Councils can improve economic recovery. If you would be interested in attending a meeting of the Working Group to provide more information please contact Mark Lowe on mark.lowe@worthing.gov.uk or telephone 01903 221009.

Thank you.

I don't think we're anywhere near 'out the other side' yet. Just last week I hear of two move firms biting the dust. I sell print and websites - which seems to be successfully riding the waves, as there is certainly an increase in 'new start ups' which is always good for us ;)

Our experience matches Jim's. Smaller design agencies are riding out the storm better than the larger ones, partly because of lower overheads and also because their clients are smaller and are re-marketing themselves; more work for designers! Also as larger companies struggle and lay off staff so more people set up in business on their own. Hence more start ups, it's an ill wind etc.

Sort the parking charges out.Get the shoppers back into Worthing. The cost of parking is driving people away. Move the Teville Gate redevelopment on. As a Gateway to Worthing it is a disgrace.

WBC needs to focus on actually supporting local smaller businesses and providing real valuable complementary services. Businesses do not engage with WBC because they have no reason to. Until WBC provide something of value then businesses will sail alone. WBC needs also to look at communication, income generation and marketing the town to outside investors.
