Petitions

Welcome to the Worthing Borough Council petitions webpage. This page includes information about how to submit a petition on paper to the council. It will also eventually include an e-petitions portal where you can register a petition to receive on-line signatures.

Submitting a petition

Petitions will be accepted by the council as long as the person generating it lives, works or studies in the area. Any petition must concern an issue which is relevant to the council and the services it provides. Lists of services can be found at :

• Worthing Borough Council services - to the public
  or
• Worthing Borough Council services - make up and workings of the council
Petitions will also be accepted if they affect a specific area or group of residents.

All petitions submitted to the Council must include:

• a clear and concise statement of the subject of the petition
• a statement about what action the petitioners wish the council to take
• name, address and signature of any person supporting the petition

All petitions sent or presented to the Council will receive an acknowledgement within 10 working days of receipt. This acknowledgement will set out what we plan to do with the petition.

e-Petitions

As from 5th January 2011 we can also accept e-petitions via the council's website - please use the link below to set up, or add your name to, an e-petition :

Restrictions and the Petitions Scheme

There are some restrictions when accepting petitions and they will not be accepted if they are considered to be vexatious, abusive or otherwise inappropriate. There are also restrictions appertaining to certain legislations and appeals procedures that are already in place. Please see the scheme for the full details.
