Search Hints and Tips

Page Rating

The search on the website is available in the top right of every page of this website.

  • TIP : We recommend first and foremost using our A to Z Index before trying a search.

  • B asic search : By default, all the words that you enter into this search box will be searched for across the website. So long as the words appear on the page they will be considered a result. E.g. you could enter Boating lake seafront and you may get a result from the Brooklands parkland, but also a council report that has two topics, one on boating lakes and one on the seafront but are entirely different subject matter seperated by a number of pages.

  • Search for an exact phrase : If you want to search for something specific e.g. Campbell Park Cricket Pitch, you can enter it just like that but it will also match things that are not relevant and will search for those words in any order. If you want to search specifically for the phrase Campbell Park Cricket Pitch with those words in that order, you can enclose the whole search phrase in quotes e.g. " Campbell Park Cricket Pitch "

Advanced Searching

You can also do an Advanced Search which offers a really easy interface to make a more pinpointed search. It offers four boxes:

  • With all the words : This box takes all of the keywords you want on the page, this is the same as doing a basic search so you can enter keywords such as recycling calendar 2010 but those words may not necessarily appear all together but be split over paragraphs on the page, but all of them must be on the page somewhere to be considered a search hit.

  • With any of the words : This is a list of keywords that may or may not be on the page, so if you entered keywords such as recycling calendar 2010, not all of those keywords may appear on the page but so long as one or more does, then it is considered a seach hit.

  • With the exact phrase : This is the same as doing a basic search enclosed in quotes. This is an exact phrase you want to find, and the keywords must be in the order you enter them. So if you search for recycling calendar 2010 the search will only make a search hit on pages that contain those keywords in that exact order on the page. Variations such as recycling 2010 calendar or finding all three keywords but over three seperate paragraphs will not be considered a search hit.

  • Without the words : This is a way of excluding words from your search results, e.g. you are looking for parks but ones without playgrounds. You can enter parks inthe with all the words box, and enter playgrounds keyword into the without the words box. This will only create a search hit on pages that include the word parks but have no mention of the word playgrounds.
