Recycling, refuse, garden waste collections (and Christmas trees)

You can download a collection day calendar for your street on Adur and Worthing Council's Services Collection Day Calendar tool. This might be useful to those on fortnightly recycling collections if you unsure how this will be affected.

My wheelie bin is full - will you collect extra bin bags over the Christmas / New Year period?

Short answer : Yes.

We understand over the Christmas / New Year period that some people will be waiting longer than one week for their wheelie bins to be emptied so we will collect extra bin bags (side waste) if your refuse wheelie bin gets full. Please do try to recycle as much as possible though; so instead of chucking out your christmas cards and wrapping paper as refuse, recycle it instead.

Garden waste collections

  • There will be no garden waste collections Monday 27th December until Monday 10th January 2011.

Christmas Tree

Christmas tree collections

  • Your unwanted real Christmas trees should be put out for recycling from the 10th January 2011 on your normal refuse collection days - the garden waste is collected weekly and resumes on this date so your real Christmas trees will be collected if put out. If possible large trees should be cut into smaller pieces to aid the collection of the trees. You do not need to be a garden waste service subscriber to have your tree collected for no charge.

Recycling tips and advice

  • Reuse your Christmas greetings cards and make new ones (or present tags) for next year, alternatively recycle them in your blue box.
  • Christmas wrappings can also be put into your blue box and recycled.
  • Don’t forget to recycle all glass bottles and jars, cans and plastic shaped bottles over the Christmas and New Year period.
  • Compost all those peelings when preparing your Christmas dinner.
  • Use rechargeable batteries for all those new electric toys.
  • Take any unwanted gifts or clothing items to the charity shop.
  • Make a new year's resolution to recycle and compost more (or to start recycling/composting if you do not already do so.)
