New year – new vision for Lancing the biggest village in England

Released: 10 Jan 2012

Adur District Council and Lancing Parish Council have joined forces to commission a study which will form a regeneration vision for Lancing village centre and seafront.  Specialist Consultants BDP have been appointed to carry out the research due to their wealth of experience and expertise of working in Sussex; including Littlehampton, Worthing and Shoreham-by-sea.

Consultation with the Lancing community and businesses will be central to the project and will get underway as soon as possible.  A drop-in 'consultation surgery' will be arranged in the village, at which BDP will spend a whole day and evening talking to people individually and in groups.  Watch this space for the surgery date.  In the meantime you can email your thoughts and comments to regeneration@adur-worthing.gov.uk or contact the Parish Council on admin@lancingparishcouncil.gov.uk

Adur Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Jim Funnell, said:

“We are very excited about working with the Parish Council on this project.  Lancing needs a clear direction and action plan for regeneration and the vision document will enable residents and businesses to direct where the Councils’ and the private sector invest in the village over the coming months and years.”

Lancing Parish Council Chairman, Ann Bridges, said:

“The Parish Council is extremely pleased to be a partner in the development of a regeneration strategy.  This is really important in order to meet the expectations of both the community and businesses in Lancing. We can use the vision document to evaluate the issues and steer a clear path for the future of Lancing as a vibrant and exciting place to live, work and visit.”

It is anticipated that the final document will be ready by the end of April 2012.  The document will:

  • inform planning policy through the emerging Local Plan;
  • form the basis of future regeneration funding applications;
  • encourage private investment into the area;
  • give a clear action plan for future investment by Adur Distrct Council and Lancing Parish Council.

We would encourage everyone to get involved in this exciting initiative.
