Come join the Mayor, Heather Mercer and SplashFM's breakfast show presenter, Dave Hunt, on Saturday 16th June and help celebrate Sussex Day in Worthing at South Street Square from 10am until 12noon. The Adur Chairman, Brenda Collard, will also be present.
Arundel Town Crier, Angela Standing, will kick off the event by reading The Sussex Charter. The Boundstone Junior Band, conducted by Linda Cole, will be oompahing in between times at 10.30am and 11.30am.
Kids can let off steam on the bouncy slide nearby and adults can sample the taste of the east with the local food company - Spice Shelf - run by Meher Salman.
The Sussex Flag along with the Borough and Union Flags will be flown outside the Town Hall for the day.
Sussex Day was the idea of Worthing resident, Ian Steedman, who says: "I am very pleased that Worthing has decided to celebrate Sussex Day. It has long been my intention to restore local civic pride by having this sort day of across the whole of Sussex."
You are invited to send a photographer/reporter at 10am to cover the launch of Worthing Sussex Day in South Street Square on Saturday 16 June. All those taking part will be holding up blue foil balloons spelling out 'Sussex Day'.
The Junior band draws children between the ages of 8 & 14 from the schools of Lancing and Sompting. In most cases they have been introduced to their instruments as complete beginners and taught in band rehearsals.
The band is conducted by Linda Cole who is the head of performing and visual arts at Boundstone Community College. The band play a wide variety of music ranging from simply pieces for the beginners in the band such as New York, New York and You raise me up to more difficult numbers such as a Disney medley, My Girl and Music from Grease.
The band are currently raising funds to take them on a mini tour to Euro Disney where they will be able to perform on stage in the one of the parks.
