With less than a week to go until voting day, the We play Too! campaign is gathering momentum with everyone in the Worthing and surrounding areas gearing up to vote to win £50k on Tuesday 25 November.
What is all the fuss about some of you might ask? Well it is all about a little girl called Zoe aged five, who suffers from 'dystonic quadriplegic cerebral palsy' and needs postural management and care 24/7.
She is a bright, sparkly girl with a great sense of humour who just wants to have some fun in the playground alongside her playmates. For most families a simple day out in the park is a cheap and easy to do family day out . But for a family with a child with additional needs playing alongside able bodied children is just impossible without specially adapted play equipment.
Worthing Council, providing the land for this project, worked with Zoë's mother Lyn Aaron-Ferrigno, to put together the lottery bid to the People's Millions Big Lottery, to do just that - provide a fully inclusive playground at Brooklands Park in Worthing for thousands of special children with disabilities. The range of play equipment planned will include a picnic table, swings and roundabout all wheelchair accessible.
Bryan Turner, Cabinet Member for Clean and Green Environment, says: "The whole scheme will cost in the region of £75k with all monies raised from We Play Too! and other grants being put towards it. So winning the £50k would be massive contribution towards it".
Lyn, adds: "This is such an exciting project so please get voting on Tuesday and make a world of difference many many families in the future."
The telephone number to vote for this project will be released via the Daily Mirror and the Big lottery Website very early on Tuesday 25 November - so get ready to vote. The public will be able to vote up to 10 times from the same number at a cost of just £1 in call per landline. Costs from other providers may vary.
The project be featured too on Meridian TV's evening news that same day.
If anyone can help can help with leafleting local schools or the public in busy areas on the 25th Please call Katie Neal on 01903 221283 or Lyn Aaron-Ferrigno on 07712 202100.
