Tarring Rec Plans

The new play area will feature a fenced 30x 15m hard surfaced ball court with provision for basketball, netball, football and cricket.  In addition there will be teen shelter to allow a gathering place away from the play equipment.  An if this wasn’t enough several other pieces of outdoor fitness equipment will be placed too. These include a chest press, pull down, skier, space walker, and a surfer.

The funding for this fabulous scheme costing £73k, came from the Big Lottery (£50k), Section 106 (£15k) and borough capital programme (£8k).

The Big Lottery set aside a whopping £164m to be spent specifically on children’s play and local authorities were allowed to bid for some of it.  As part of the initiative a national fun day has been set up for 6 August but Worthing is celebrating with its own fun day on Monday 4 August instead, with the Mayor Christine Brown, declaring the play area and fun day open at 10.30.

Worthing Homes Ltd (a social housing landlord) also recognise the healthy benefits of installing this type of equipment has agreed to fund lighting for the fitness area and also two more items of fitness equipment.

Throughout the day there will be lots of activities for every age to enjoy and test out their fitness levels.

Big Lottery money has also been secured to provide a new playground at Longcroft Park, Durrington. Improving play equipment in Worthing doesn’t stop here though as the Council is committed to carry out improvements and renovation to the existing playgrounds across town as part of it’s commitment via the Play Strategy.
