Worthing is located on the south coast of England between the South Downs and the English Channel, between Littlehampton to the west and Brighton & Hove to the east. It is only 60 miles from Central London.

Location of Worthing in West Sussex on the A24 and A27

Train links run regularly along the south coast through Worthing's five stations with regular services from Portsmouth, Southampton, Brighton and London. Worthing is also easy to access by road with good links to the trunk and motorway road networks.

By Road

National Connections

Worthing has excellent connections to the national motorway and trunk road network, as well as good county links. The main south coast road, the A27, runs through the town providing a good connection to Brighton & Hove to the east, and Chichester and Portsmouth from the west. Worthing is also within close reach of the M23, M25 and M27 motorway network.

Local Connections

Offington Corner, Worthing - A24 and A27 roads

Worthing is also well served by a secondary coast route which runs south of the A27, the A259. This route runs through the town from East Worthing at Brooklands Pleasure Park to Goring-by-Sea in the west. The A24 also connects Worthing to the northern part of Sussex and Surrey with a mostly dual carriageway route.

Directions - by Road

  • To get to Worthing from London, Crawley or THE NORTH

    Quick/Main Route:
    Take the M23 south from the M25 London Orbital Motorway. At Crawley/Pease Pottage the M23 merges directly on to the A23 which you can head south towards Brighton. At Patcham Interchange with the A27, follow the the same directions as if you are heading from THE EAST.

    Alternatively you can turn off junction 11 at the end of the M23 and follow the A264 to Horsham until you meet the A24 and head south towards Worthing.

  • To get to Worthing from Southampton, Portsmouth or THE WEST

    Quick/Main Route: Follow the M27 South Coast Motorway heading eastbound. At Cosham the M27 merges directly into the A27 after the M275 interchange. Follow the A27 east through Chichester, Fontwell and Arundel towards Worthing. For traffic coming from Eastleigh and Winchester direction you will need to head south on the M3 and merge onto the eastbound M27.

    Scenic Route: If you fancy a slower pace drive, why not try the A259 if you are coming alon the coast. You can pick this up easily either at Emsworth or Chichester and follow through Bognor Regis and Littlehampton. Alternatively the A272 to the north of Worthing provides a wonderful drive through Petersfield (Hampshire), Midhurst and Petworth which comes to the Buck Barn crossroads with the A24 which you can take south to head towards Worthing.

  • To get to Worthing from Brighton, Hove, Eastbourne and THE EAST

    Quick/Main Route: Head west along the A27 (A259 if coming from east of Pevensey/Bexhill) following the Brighton & Hove by-pass through the Southwick Tunnel, Lancing and Sompting. Worthing is about 15 miles from Brighton.

    If coming from Kent you may find it quicker to follow the M2/A2 or M20 to the M25 and follow the directions from THE NORTH.

    Alternative Route: For a slightly slower paced drive you can take the A259 heading east through Brighton & Hove, Shoreham-by-Sea and Lancing (once over the River Adur.)

By Rail

Worthing has excellent rail connections which make commuting and living in the area easy to move around the town. It has five stations with regular trains running to Portsmouth/Southampton and Brighton & Hove. Trains also run regularly to London Victoria. The five stations are (east to west):

  • East Worthing
  • Worthing (main station that is 10-15 minutes walk from the seafront)
  • West Worthing
  • Durrington on Sea
  • Goring by Sea

By Bus and Coach

Stagecoach is the main local bus company running regular services around the town. Other companies operate in the area such as Compass Travel, Brighton & Hove Bus Company and Metro Bus company operate services in and around Worthing.

Coaches to London and Chichester are provided by National Express and also Megabus.

By Air

Worthing is 35 miles from London Gatwick Airport, the second largest airport in the UK. It is also located close to Shoreham Airport which may offer smaller short haul flights. London Heathrow Airport is approximately 60 miles from Worthing.
