The West Sussex Compact

Article's Rating

The purpose of a local Compact is to improve working relationships and develop a framework for partnership between local government, the health service and other statutory agencies and the Voluntary and Community Sector, based on shared values and mutual respect.

The first West Sussex Compact was drawn up and signed in 2001 and it was intended that the Compact would be revised after a short time.  A Steering Group, convened by West Sussex Voluntary Organisations Liaison Group (VOLG), comprising representatives from the District, Borough and County Councils along with other statutory bodies, plus members of voluntary and community organisations, carried out a review.  Subsequently a revised Compact was launched at the Voluntary Sector Forum in March 2005.

In order to ensure that it remains a ‘live’ document, through a continuing process of maintaining awareness, further development of good practice, and evaluation and review, a West Sussex Compact Group, convened by VOLG, takes forward the Implementation and Action Plan set out at Appendix C.
