Elections and Electoral Services

Welcome to the Electoral Services section, we hope it provides you with all the information you need about upcoming elections, how to register and much more.

When are Elections Held?

Local elections are held on the first Thursday in May, three years out of every four. In the fourth year county council elections are held, again on the first Thursday in May. By-elections can be called at any time. European parliamentary elections are held every five years.

The next European election will be in 2009.

Parliamentary elections are held at least once every five years, the last one being in May 2005. However, they can be called at any time and there is a strong possibility of one being held during the next couple of years. This site will be updated as soon as the date of the next parliamentary election is known.

The last local election was held on the 1st of May 2008.
