Worthing Borough Council has the responsibility for stray dogs within the borough. Wherever possible the cost of providing this service is passed to those that use the service.
The council has the authority to determine the fees it charges for the services it provides. However, it endeavours to set these fees on a cost recovery basis aiming to ensure that income from fees as nearly as possible equates to the cost of providing the service to which the fee relates including a reasonable share of expenditure which is referable only partly or only indirectly linked to the provision of the service.
Worthing Borough Council has calculated its fees in accordance with this principle. A table of the current fees is set out below:
| Days | Charge |
|---|---|
| 1 day |
£48.00 |
| 2 days |
£62.00 |
| 3 days | £76.00 |
| 4 days |
£90.00 |
| 5 days |
£104.00 |
| 6 days |
£118.00 |
| 7 days |
£132.00 |
Dogs will be detained for a maximum of 7 days after which time they will become property of the council and re-homed.
The above charges inc. 20 % VAT.
Charges are up to 1 day £48.00, 2 days £62.00 then £14.00 per additional day or part day (up to a maximum of 7 days detention).
