Licensing is the tool used by Government to ensure the safety of the public and enforce standards in a number of industries and activities. Adur District Council and Worthing Borough Council are the Licensing Authorities under the terms of a number of acts of parliament and have the responsibility for administrating and enforcing a diverse selection of licensing legislation in their areas.
Whilst Adur DC and Worthing BC are seperate licensing authorities Adur & Worthing Council Services' Environmental Health Department, through its Licensing Unit, assumes responsibility for the administration and enforcement of the majority of licensing within both council's areas.
Please use the section links on the left to access information on the many different forms of licensing that Adur District and Worthing Borough councils are responsible for. The majority of licensing, including licences issued under the Licensing Act 2003, the Gambling Act 2005, and the various acts that regulate Taxi licensing are dealt with by the council's Licensing Unit. However, because some licensing requires highly technical advice some requests are handled by other specialists within Adur & Worthing Council Services. Concequently there are some different contact details for these types of licence. To get the right contact details, first choose the type of licence you require.

All of the Licensing Forms are available from our forms library.
As part of the new joint officer structure serving Worthing Borough and Adur District Councils the councils' Licensing Units have merged and Worthing officers have relocated from the Portland House offices in Richmond Road, Worthing.
