Sex Shop Licence Fee

As the Licensing Authority, Worthing Borough Council has the responsibility under the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982 for licensing sex establishments in the borough such as Sex Shops, Sex Cinemas and Sex Entertainment Venues. The cost of providing this service to be met by application and annual fees paid by the licensees.

The council has the authority to determine the fees it charges such a licence and the services it provides. However, it has a duty to set these fees on a cost recovery basis aiming to ensure that  income from fees as nearly as possible equates to the cost of providing the service to which the fee relates including a reasonable share of expenditure which is referable only partly or only indirectly linked to the provision of the service. 

Worthing Borough Council has calculated its fees in accordance with this principle. 

The current application cost for a Sex Establishment licence has been set at £2,590.00 for the financial year ending 31 March 2012. The annual renewal fee stands at £2040.00.
