Licensing a New Vehicle

Every taxi vehicle licence and private hire vehicle licence issued is legally regarded as a "new" licence. Consequently each time a vehicle licence is applied for, whether it is being licensed for the first time or a "renewal", the application form used is for a new licence. The application has to be accompanied by the following documents:

  • The completed application form
  • The Vehicle Registration Document, (Form V5c)
  • A Certificate of Insurance or a cover note which shows that the intended driver is covered to drive that vehicle for Hire and Reward, either public hire (for taxis) or by prior arrangment, (for Private Hire vehicles). *
  • A current Test Certificate if the vehicle is more than twelve months old since it was registered. *
  • The Certificate of Fitness issued by our workshops in Lancing, issued not more than one month earlier.
  • The licence fee.  For a new licence we will work this out on a daily rate when you apply.  For a renewal, it is the annual fee.

* These documents must be current on the date the licence is to start.

We will also need to inspect the vehicle at the Licensing Office for suitablility and compliance with the licence conditions. This has to take place before the licence is issued.
