The Worthing Homelessness Forum has produced a pocket-sized booklet to help homeless people.
The booklet, called the Homelessness Survival Guide, aims to signpost homeless people to the most appropriate services, including hostel availability, access to GP’s and dental services and support groups.
Designed by a third year student at Northbrook College, the booklet results from a partnership working across the public, private and voluntary sector – resulting in a user friendly guide which is small enough for a homeless person to slip into a pocket, giving an at-a-glance guide to all useful contact numbers.
The booklet, available from a variety of outlets that are likely to be used by the homeless, was funded by a grant from the Office of the Department of the deputy Prime Minister (now Communities and Local Government). The booklet is due to be updated in 2010.
Set up in 2002, the Homelessness Forum is a multi-agency group, with representatives from up to 40 local organisations with a commitment to improving services for homeless people.
