Welcome to Active Communities

 Youth football

Welcome to the Active Communities Team which is part of Adur and Wothing Councils' Planning, Regeneration and Wellbeing Service. Our role is to:

  • Kick start & develop voluntary led activity programmes
  • Develop partnerships with schools to increase young people's health & wellbeing
  • Improve access to activities for vulnerable groups
  • Prevent anti-social behaviour by engaging young people in positive activities
  • Develop outdoor exercise / play to increase activity levels & promote wellbeing

A core value for us is that we believe that everybody can improve the quality of their lives by regular participation in physical activity.

Each person is different so the benefits we can get from taking part will vary from individual to individual but here are

Five Reasons why you should get involved
ReasonWhy
Fun Regular participation in activities that you enjoy is fun
Fitness Remember that mental well being is as important as physical fitness to our overall health.
Fulfilment Whether you are performing or learning a new skill the sense of achievement can be massive.
Friendship Activities bring like minded people together to enjoy shared experiences and each other’s company.
Freedom You can escape the pressures of everyday life for an hour or two by taking part in a physical activity.

Development is about making a difference in the long term. Whilst we are happy to organise events, we expect these to be linked to outcomes that will bring about lasting improvements.

We can not do our work alone and we rely heavily on developing partnerships with local voluntary groups and other public and commercial organisations as well as collaborating with our colleagues within the Councils. Take a look at our Sports & Physical Activity pages to get the latest information about how we can help you be more active

Finally, if you need any advice or have any comments about our service or suggestions for possible projects we would be pleased to hear from you.
