A community profile for the Adur District and Worthing Borough 2011

Adur & Worthing Councils logo The community wellbeing team of Adur and Worthing Council’s have produced a community profile for both the areas of Adur and Worthing. The report brings together in one document statistical data from a broad range of issues ranging from population, inequalities, and crime. It provides a snapshot in time of life in these two areas. The report contains data on as local a level as is available and where possible it also contains data on a regional and national level so that comparisons can be made.

The report is divided into six main sections:

  • Demographics and population
  • Deprivation and inequalities
  • Benefits and unemployment
  • Education
  • Health
  • Crime and anti-social behaviour

For the reader with less time there is also an executive summary at the beginning of the document which lists key points from each of the sections above.

The report provides hard fast statistical data in an easy to understand format. It does not contain anecdotal information or try to provide solutions to the issues raised. If you require further information contact Lynne Ward, Neighbourhood Manager of the Community Wellbeing team.

By its nature the report will require to be updated on a regular basis as more recent data becomes available. This will be particularly true for when results from the 2011 national census are released.

The report is intended for everyone who has an interest in Adur and Worthing. It will in particular be a useful tool for informing decision making, assisting in the setting of priorities, the completion of funding bids and assisting in the most effective use of resources.

Indices of Deprivation

Adur & Worthing Councils logo This report provides information on deprivation in both the Districts of Adur and the Borough of Worthing.

Deprivation in the report is shown on a national, county, electoral ward and neighbourhood level. The levels of deprivation shown are 'relative', i.e. comparing one area to another. The data is the most recently available for the Indices of Deprivation released in July 2011.

Although the report is laid out in an easy to understand format it is advisable to read the introduction at the start of the report for the document to be of maximum use.

The West Sussex Research Unit (West Sussex County Council and NHS Sussex) have released updated 2011 Ward Profiles for West Sussex. They contain statistical data for all of the electoral wards in West Sussex enabling you to compare data from one ward to another. These profiles are an update on those released in 2009 (also available on this web page). They are an improvement as they contain additional data including information on deprivation.

To analyse the data use the drop down boxes at the top of the page to choose the ward you want data on and then choose another ward to compare the data to.

Ward profiles 2009

Adur & Worthing Councils logo

Statistical data for the whole of West Sussex can be found on the West Sussex Ward Profiles 2009. These are compiled by West Sussex County Council and the West Sussex Public Health Observatory. They contain data on a broad range of issues down to electoral ward level. Districts and Boroughs are broken down into these electoral ward areas. Adur is divided into 14 electoral wards and Worthing into 13. Data contained in the ward profiles includes: population figures, ethnic background, household types, council tax bands, qualifications, benefits, general health, deprivation and crime. You can see this data for one ward and compare it to any other ward in West Sussex. The only word of warning is that some of the data is quite old now as it is taken from the most recent national census in 2001.

The link below enables you to compare any two wards in West Sussex. By default it is set to Buckingham and Churchill wards in Adur, but you can change these by selecting any wards from the drop down menus (click on the small triangle on the right hand side of the ward name).

WARNING: this is a very large Excel file (7mb) which contains macros. You will need to click on 'enable macros' when you open the file if you get prompted to do so.
