How to Submit a Search

We are able to process Postal, DX, Online, Email, NLIS and requests for information under EIR. A site plan, preferably Ordnance Survey, clearly defining the curtilage of the area to be searched against may also be required.  A member of the Local Land Charges Team will contact you, if a plan is required.

Where an email address is supplied on a search request, we will assume consent to return the search reply electronically.  Should you wish to receive a hard copy of your search result, please contact us at landcharges@adur-worthing.gov.uk or 01903 221038 or 01903 221490

Any search received from 1/8/07, regardless of the form actually submitted, will be processed with reference to the new forms CON29R and CON29O (2007).

All Additional Enquiries for Worthing or Adur searches should be sent direct to the relevant department. These will no longer be accepted as part of the search process.

Personal Search requests under the new regime of EIR as from 2 August 2010

You are entitled to carry out Personal Searches of Environmental Information under the EI Regulations free of charge with effect from Monday 2 August 2010.  Although we are only obliged toallow inspection of public registers we recognise that this would be inefficient for both yourself and the local authority staff.  Accordingly, we propose to implement the following system when a personal search is requested.

  • You will need to continue to submit your requests in writing as previously.  We will deal with them on a first come, first served basis You will need to include your name, address, telephone number and email address in your request
  • There will no longer be an appointment system for the collection of personal search results
  • We will send you reports showing basic information from the Local Land Charges Register

Official search of the Local Land Charges Register (LLC1) Should you require a compiled report of information contained on the Local Land Charges Register, rather than a Personal Search made under the EI Regulations, please either send in an LLC1 form for which a payment of £12 is required for postal, or use our Online Form or email your LLC1 request for which a payment of £10 is required, to the Local Land Charges Section for Adur and Worthing at:

Address: Worthing Borough Council, Town Hall, Chapel Road, Worthing, West Sussex, BN11 1HA, DX 142963 Worthing 10, Telephone: 01903 221038 or 01903 221490, Fax: 01903 221039, Email: landcharges@adur-worthing.gov.uk

An EIR request will not procure answers to the enquiries on the CON29R form from the Local Land Charges Section.  Such enquiries can only be answered by the Local Land Charges Section in the context of a full search, which will require the submission of the correct forms, correct fee and plan (if necessary).

Do you have all the information to make an informed decision?

Some questions you may wish to ask your solicitor to help you make an informed decision as to whether you have all the information you need, before you go ahead with your property purchase:

  • Where did the search information come from?
  • If the local authority did not complete the search, have all of the required enquiries been answered fully?
  • Has insurance been used?  If so, is the cover adequate and does it cover you after the date of completion?
  • How can any follow up queries regarding the search be raised?

Any queries arising from other search providers compiling their own CON29R responses must be referred back to that provider.

The retroactive date for current insurance provisions for Worthing Borough Council and Adur District Council is 24 February 1993.

National Land Information Service (NLIS)

NLIS is an electronic way of sending and receiving search requests.  It was introduced in February 2001, and an increasing number of applicants are now using this method of searching. Worthing and Adur are linked at Level 3 (the highest level) to the NLIS hub and can receive and return searches electronically (including payment). For further information please contact NLIS on 08720 450 450.  To contact a channel provider for this service please go to www.nlis.org.uk
