Parking on/in double yellow lines, loading bans, loading bays, taxi ranks and limited bus stops may result in the issue of a Penalty Charge Notice at all times.

Parking - Controlled Parking Zone Sign

Parking Zones Explained

The area of the Town surrounding the Town Centre is broken up into Controlled Parking Zones as follows:

  • Zones A, B & C all provide Pay & Display parking. The hours of control are 9am to 6pm Monday to Saturday. There are Pay & Display machines in most roads.
  • We have produced a guide to controlled parking zones which you can download in PDF format for further information.

Zone A

Zone A covers the town centre and the charge is 80p per hour. It should be noted that the machines do not give change, and accept coins in units of 20p.

It is advisable at all times to check the sign on the road for the amount of time you are permitted to park. If the sign says Pay & Display parking, or Pay & Display and residents permits – you may park for the length of time stipulated.

If the sign says ‘Permit Holders Only’ – this parking is reserved for residents of the town centre, who have an appropriate permit and means you may not use those bays. See Parking Permits for further information.

Zones B and C

Parking - On Street Parking in Worthing with Pay and Display Machine

Zones B & C charge 60p per hour, and there is some availability to park for a 4 hour period on Marine Parade opposite Heene Terrace, and at Splash Point. Again the road signs must be observed for the permitted length of stay.

There are Disabled Parking Bays marked out in the following areas:

  • Outside the library in Richmond Road
  • Union Place
  • Liverpool Road near Barclays Bank (this is a continuation of Chapel Road)
  • Montague Place
  • Marine Parade near the Pavilion Theatre

Disabled drivers may also use the Pay & Display bays in the town centre, but not the resident bays.

Zones D to L

Zones D to L are only controlled between 10am – 11am, and 2pm – 3pm. During these periods residents only with permits may park. There are no Pay & Display facilities in these areas, as there is free parking for seven hours a day. Some of the parking adjacent to Brighton Road in Zone C offers one or two hour limited waiting. Again it is important to read the sign on the street when you park to ensure you comply with the parking restriction for that particular street.

Controlled Parking Zones Guide

The Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) was introduced on 8th November 1996, following detailed consultation with the residents and businesses of Worthing.

Prior to its introduction, residents, shoppers and people who worked in Worthing competed for the limited on-street parking space, which caused severe parking problems. The CPZ is designed to prevent all day on-street commuter parking, making it easier for residents, visitors and shoppers to park, enhance road safety, and remove obstructions to private accesses by eliminating indiscriminate parking.

The CPZ includes the whole of the town centre and some surrounding residential areas, and operates using a permit and pay & display system. The booklet available to download below is intended to provide residents, businesses, shoppers and other visitors with information about the scheme.

Parking Permits

Several options are available to residents and businesses in obtaining permits which may allow them to park in permit holder bays. Further information on permit types, critria, waiting lists and costs may be obtained from The Worthing Parking Shop or by contacting us using our on-line permit enquiry form.

Solo Motorcycle Parking

There are specific motorcycle bays in:

  • Chatsworth Road
  • Montague Place
  • The Steyne
  • Augusta Place
  • and Chandos Road.

Parking in these designated bays is free.  If you are a resident in the Controlled Parking Zone, motorcycles do not require a residents permit although we would respectfully ask that you park considerately and allow as much room as possible for the usage of motor vehicles to also use the parking bays provided.

Coach Parking

There are four marked coach bays in the vicinity of the Lido on Marine Parade. These are for dropping off coach parties. Outside May to December, if the group are disabled and need access to the vehicle during the day, the coach may remain in the bay. It may not remain overnight in the Controlled Parking Zones.

In high season, all day or over night coach parking is to be found in West Parade.

Any queries, enquires or complaints that you may have with regards on Street Parking within the borough of Worthing or West Sussex in general should in the first instance be referred to the The Worthing Parking Shop.
