The Town and Country Planning (Control of Advertisements) Regulations 1992 sets out the legal framework for the control of advertisements. The Regulations are complex and if you wish to display an advertisement, it is advisable to contact the Council to clarify whether or not consent is required.
The only considerations in assessing whether an advertisement is acceptable are its affect on visual amenity and public safety. As a general rule, the majority of illuminated signs require consent.
Under the Advertisement Regulations, it is an offence to display an advertisement without the express consent of the Council.
