Access and Facilities for People with Disabilities
The Building Control Manager is also the Access Officer for the Borough Council. Although the role of Access Officer is defined, all Building Control Officers deal with access issues to some extent.
Although it is the duty of the Council to bring to the attention of developers the appropriate legislative requirements surrounding access for disabled people, including;
- The Disability Discrimination Act 1995
- Part M - Access to and use of buildings - The Building Regulations 2000
and offer relevant design advice concerning access and facilities, this is only part of a wider involvement in the improvement of conditions for the disabled.
Our Guidance Note 6. Access to and use of buildings provides more information.
