Introduction
This Code of Practice is to let you know the standard of service that Worthing’s Planning Section will aim to provide when letters are received which require a response. It is concerned with enquiries received from members of the public, agents, applicants, potential developers, solicitors, consultees, lessees, tenants and other parties requiring advice from the Department but does not include representations on planning applications. It applies to all enquiries made to the Planning Section and includes enquiries on planning and building control matters.Acknowledgement of and Replies to Letters
Where possible, we will provide you with a written reply within 10 working days from the date of receipt of your letter. Where replies cannot be given this quickly, your letter will be acknowledged in writing within 5 working days and a reply will be sent within 10 working days. You will also be advised of the name and direct line telephone number of the Officer who has dealt with or is dealing with your enquiry.Where complex enquiries are received (which require detailed analysis, research or consultation with third parties), your enquiry will be acknowledged within 5 working days of receipt. You will be provided with the name and telephone number of the officer dealing with your enquiry.
You will also be given an estimate of the time the officer will need to provide you with a detailed reply. If this cannot be achieved, you will be advised in writing of the progress we are making with your enquiry within that timescale and a further estimate of the extra time needed to provide you with a full reply.
Letters which relate to alleged breaches of planning control will be dealt with under the Section’s Code of Practice for the Enforcement of Planning Controls which is available on our web-site or upon request from the Department’s reception during working hours. This sets out different timescales for dealing with letters.
Letters which are considered to be representations on planning applications will not be replied to but they will be taken into account before the relevant application is determined. You will be advised of the Council’s decision on the application in writing within 7 working days of the date that the decision was made.
