Household Waste Recycling Sites are also known as Amenity Tips, Amenity Sites Rubbish Dumps, Recycling Centres and Tips. There are three in your local area: Worthing, Littlehampton and Shoreham.

Where, What and Opening Times

West Sussex County Council has comprehensive information on Household Waste Recycling Sites covering the whole of West Sussex including Adur and Worthing. The pages also explain what each site can accept and opening hours, you should consult these pages for the most up to date information. Do note that the sites operate different opening hours during winter and summer.

Mornings tend to be the busiest and most congested times therefore we recommend you try to avoid this time of day. Later afternoons and early evenings are the quietest period.

West Sussex County Council provides 12 Household Waste Recycling Sites for the public to use to dispose of their own household waste.

If the item(s) you want to dispose of is too bulky or impractical to get to a Household Waste Recycling Site yourself, you should contact us for a Bulky Waste Collection.

Worthing

Dominion Way, East Worthing (Contact and Location)

West Sussex County Council's website has a comprehensive summary of opening times, what the site can accept and much more. Don't forget that these sites also offer comprehensive and convenient recycling of old goods such as electical goods, furniture, green waste, metals, white goods and much more.

The Worthing site is located just off Dominion Road, East Worthing.

Directions from the north of Worthing

  • Follow the A27 east to the cross roads at the Argos superstore/Toby Carvery pub, taking the right turn into Sompting Road
  • Follow Sompting Road south to the roundabout and take the left exit into Dominion Road (B2223) and follow the road past the Wickes DIY superstore until you reach the traffic lights before the railway bridge in front of the electricity substation.
  • Take the left lane at these traffic lights and turn left into Dominion Way
  • The Household Waste Recycling Site is on your right (second right)

Directions from the south and west and east of Worthing

  • Follow the A259 coast road out of/in to Worthing until you reach the Half Brick Pub, take the turning up the side of the Half Brick into Ham Road (B2223)
  • Follow Ham Road across the cross-roads with traffic lights with Lyndhurst Road
  • Take the left exit on the roundabout in front of MFI and Carpet Right and continue straight on over the railway bridge
  • At the traffic lights take the right hand lane and proceed on to Dominion Way in front of you (rather than following Dominion Road around a sharp left turn)
  • The Household Waste Recycling Site is on your right (second right)

Lancing, Shoreham-by-Sea, Sompting and Southwick (Adur)

Brighton Road, Shoreham-by-Sea

Adur District Council's website has an Household Waste Recycling Sites explaining the services available, as well as West Sussex County Council's pages on the Shoreham site.

The Shoreham-by-Sea site is located on the A259 coast road towards Brighton & Hove, this can be easily accessed from Worthing by following the A259 east. Alternatively you can take the A27 east also towards Brighton & Hove, exit at the Shoreham Flyover taking the A283 exit ramp and leaving the roundabout at the bottom towards Shoreham on the A283 (heading south.) Go straight across at the mini roundabout and underneath the railway bridge until you reach the roundabout at the end of the A283 and take the left exit into Shoreham-by-Sea's high street. Continue straight on and it is just beyond the B&Q DIY superstore.

Sompting Site - CLOSED

The previous site in Sompting closed in December 2006. The Worthing site is being upgraded as a consequence.

Littlehampton (Arun)

If you live in West Worthing or Goring you may find it easier to get to the Littlehampton site. West Sussex County Council's pages on the Littlehampton site explain the opening hours, location and what is accepted.

The Littlehampton site is located off the A284 heading south from Arundel and the A27. Alternatively you can approach Littlehampton from the east on the A259 which you follow to the right of the Body Shop roundabout to the second roundabout with the A284 taking the right exit to head north towards Arundel.
