Adur & Worthing Safer Communities Partnership

The Adur & Worthing Safer Communities Partnership (A&WSCP) has a statutory duty to reduce crime and disorder. The partnership is made up of the following agencies: Adur & Worthing Councils, Sussex Police, Sussex Police Authority, West Sussex County Council, West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service, NHS West Sussex, Sussex Probation and  West Sussex Drug & Alcohol Action Team.

What is Anti-Social Behaviour?

Anti Social Behaviour is given a wide meaning by legislation.

It has a negative effect on many people’s lives but what is anti-social behaviour and what is not?

Harassment/Intimidation Children playing in the street or communal areas
Verbal Abuse Young people gathering socially – unless they are being intimidating to individuals
Criminal Damage/ Graffiti Being unable to park outside your own home
Noise nuisance DIY and car repairs – unless these are taking place late at night
Substance misuse Civil disputes between neighbours e.g. shared driveways
Vehicle related nuisance One-off complaints of noise nuisance e.g. one-off parties.

What Can We Do About It?

There are a range of interventions available to tackle anti-social behaviour these include:

  • Mediation
  • Acceptable Behaviour Contracts
  • Anti Social Behaviour Orders
  • Parenting Contracts
  • Written/Verbal warnings
