All matters relating to the provision and maintenance of highways and road within Worthing are principally the responsibility of West Sussex Council rather than Worthing Borough Council.
West Sussex County Council is the highway authority responsible for the construction and maintenance of all publicly maintained roads and for transport planning matters throughout West Sussex with the exception of motorways and trunk roads in the region (M23, A23 and A27) for which the Department for Transport is responsible for through its appointed contractor and consultant the Highways Agency.
Important routes for which West Sussex County Council is responsible for in the Worthing Borough include the A24, A259, A2031 and A2032.
