Historically the Council have maintained confidential lists of approved contractors and consultants split into categories relating to the size and type of work which is to be carried out.
However, this system has frequently provided a poor choice of contractors willing to tender for work. From April 2006 the Council therefore decided to use the resources and experience of 'Constructionline' to assist in the preparation of future tender lists. More detailed information can be found at www.constructionline.co.uk.
'Constructionline' is a Government backed initiative which is owned and endorsed by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
There are significant advantages to both the Council and prospective contractors/consultants from using this system. These include, but are not limited to, the following;
- Access to a larger number of contractors
- Less administrative time required for the Council and contractor
- Feedback on the performance of contractors from other authorities/clients
- Low cost for contractors to be registered
- Free service for the Council
- Existing contractors used by the Council are readily included in the scheme
- Early notification from 'Constructionline' regarding critical issues such as bankrupt directors, past performance, etc.
- Up to date checks on accounts, insurance details, health and safety record etc
Contractors and consultants that wish to tender for works commissioned by the Council should make sure that their details are registered with 'Constructionline'.
