Corporate Geographical Information Systems (GIS)

Worthing Borough Council is strongly committed to the e-Government agenda and joined-up Government.  GIS is a key factor in bringing together Council service information via interactive mapping improving service delivery of customer services.

The GIS team are responsible for the development of PlanWeb the corporate Intranet GIS which all Council staff can search on addresses held in the LLPG and find out service information related to that property.  Other key datasets are Council Owned Property, Waste service and Planning information.

The GIS team are also responsible for core Ordnance Survey mapping data and Discover Worthing , Worthing Borough Council's public interactive mapping service featured on the web.

Discover Worthing has been designed to provide members of the public access to maps showing the location of many of the Council's facilities and services across the Borough.  This service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  The maps show data provided by a number of the Council's departments as well as other useful data from external sources. 

If you are new to the area why not try "find my nearest" school, doctors surgery, dentist, hospital, recycling bank with the ability to plot and print your journey?

You can visit the site to report vandalism, street lighting or graffiti problem by pin pointing the problem on a map.  When you click the submit button the problem is sent to the appropriate Section of the Council?

There is tourist information for visitors too, including Worthing's Key Locations, Tourist Information Centres and places to eat and stay. 

Discover Worthing allows you to enter your address and find out about facilities and services near to where you live.  You can obtain additional information about particular features that interest you.

The system has been implemented as part of the Council's e-Government strategy to provide electronic access to Council information.
