The process

There may be occasions when you would want to change the existing house name. For example if you are a new purchaser you may want to have your own house name rather than the existing one.

Occasionally after building works, you may find that your front entrance is now facing outwards onto a different road or street which could cause problems to the postal or emergency services in locating the property.  In these circumstances it is necessary to request a change of address.

You should note that a change of house name or address will not be automatic. It will depend on other circumstances at the time such as:

  • whether there is already a property with your proposed name in the area
  • Royal Mail's views
  • a house name change cannot be processed until you have completed the purchase

Once your request is received by the Corporate Information Officer we will find out if the proposed changes are possible. Once we have done this, we will inform you and also we will notify all the relevant services of the changes. At present there is no charge made for this service.
