Land Drainage

Worthing Borough Council has the following responsibilities and involvement with regards Land Drainage within the Borough:

  • Advise on the Council's responsibilities under the Land Drainage Act as both Statutory Authority and landowner.
  • Manage the Council's obligations under the Land Drainage Act, including all monitoring.
  • Liaison with the Environment Agency re. Clearance of pollution of water courses within the Borough.
  • Liase with RSPCA, English Nature and the Environment Agency on the environmental issues concerning wildlife and their habitat near water courses.
  • Monitor and maintain the surface water Brooklands Lake storage facility, in liaison with Southern Water Services.

The above responsibilities for Land Drainage fall within the remit of the Engineering Team of the Technical Services Section.

Policy Statement

A policy statement has recently been completed by Worthing Borough Council which provides a public statement of how the Council manages the risk of flooding and costal erosion in the area.
