The maintenance of the Parade Decorative Lighting is the responsibility of the Surveying & Design Services Team.
The installation consists of 'festoon' lighting suspended between McKenzie columns, with small intermediate support columns, in the area from Splash Point to Heene Road, and 'festoon' lighting suspended on short columns between Ham Road and Windsor Lawns.
As part of the seafront enhancement works, the whole installation has been replaced over the last couple of years, using pulsing rope lighting on the McKenzie coloumns. This has resulted in energy savings, longer life, less vandalism, less maintenance requirements and less down time due to circuits tripping during inclement weather.
Additional decorative illumination is provided by the small concrete columns between the Lido and Splash Point, which use low energy, long life lamps and the laterns on the larger McKenzie columns, which are situated between Splash Point and George V avenue.
Along with the lighting of the Parade there is a similar low voltage system to decorate the Pier Southern and Centre pavilions. This is enhanced by the decorative columns around the perimeter of the Pier, which use low energy long life lamps as a light source. The Pavilion Theatre is illuminated at night by the use of luminaires strategically placed in window areas around the rooflines. The main feature of this system is the main pavilion roof where the colour through the high-level windows changes by the use of preprogrammed filters.

The lighting, which decorates the town during the Christmas period, is installed and operated by the Town Centre Initiative supported by sponsorship from the many businesses in the town.
