Page: Disabled Access Improvements
Comment: It is the Ritz Theatre not the Richmond Theatre
Thank you, the original author of the page has been notified of the mistake and we are correcting it today, this mistake has been on our website for some time as this page was also the same on the old website. Thank you.
Comment: Where are the webcams?
We don't actually have any webcams at present, although we do hope to add some on the pier soon. The only web-cam service that we use are for Worthing Crematorium's Web-casts when those invited cannot attend the service, they can watch from their computer with a secure log in. What sort of web-camera feeds were you looking for of Worthing, and where did you hear about them being on our website? I hope we can help further.
Page: How to Pay Council Tax
Comment: can i have a contact number for direct council tax line?
If you on the right hand side of the How to Pay Your Council Tax page you will see a Worthing Direct 'gadget' (which is green) that shows you the telephone number, 01903 221061. This won't be shown if Javascript is disabled (98% of people have this enabled and it's on by default in most web browsers.)
The page's wording does need a bit of work so we will get this done as soon as possible. I will also add today a contact link to the page which will take you to the Council Tax related cotact information.
Always look for the Worthing Direct gadget, it's your friend for quick direct contact information. We are adding lots of easy to see and use Contact Us links to each page, but with just one person doing this it's taking a little while. I for one wish it was done now!
Page: Roadworks
Comment: Seeing as I clicked on Street Repairs and got this, not a lot.
What were you hoping the page would tell you? If you can be more explicit as to what was 'not much' I will know what I can do to help. Compared to other local authorities this page explains as much as they do, with one ommission (see below) that I will sort out.
Worthing Borough Council doesn't carry out the vast majority of repairs and road/street related works, that will be West Sussex County Council. They are linked to on the page, as are the Highways Agency who are responsible for the A27 in Worthing as it is a trunk road. Following the West Sussex County Council link in the first paragraph takes you to their roadworks page, and they have a on-line map system that shows the works being carried out across West Sussex including Worthing.
What I can do is add a clear and easy to find link so you can report street related issues such as damaged kerb-stones. I reported a damaged kerb-stone on Browning Road in Worthing last week to West Sussex County Council using this form and it was repaired within two days of reporting it which was good. So that was an omission that I can sort out today.
Page: Past Mayors of Worthing
Comment: pictures of the past mayors would be nice if available
A great idea! I will see what we can do to update this page with some photos. I have some work to do on the Mayor's Parlour tour next week so I'm sure this can be done as part of that work.
Page: Conservation (Buildings)
Comment: I find this page nice and easy to use, it's alphabetical which I know is logical but it's amazing how many people don't do things that way, it's not too flash just nice and simple.
Page: Muntham Court
Comment: How about adding to the wording at top of the page:- 'The wonderful Judas Tree remains and is in full bloom each May. Well worth a visit.'
I think that's a good idea as Worthing Crematorium is a beautiful location in itself, I will add that today as well as some good photos we have of the crematorium. Also, this particular section, Cemetries and Crematoriums which has a copy in Leisure and Culture and a copy on the main services page will be merged as it's confusing having two!
Page: Planning and Building Control Fees
Comment: very bad pdf not downloading
Sorry that you have encountered a problem on this page. I have tested all the PDF files on this page and they are all working fine. I have also tested them from my home PC and also had no issues. We do need to tidy this page up but the files are working fine. I suggest saving the links to your computer first, and then opening them from your desktop rather than directly in your browser by just clicking.
If you could tell us which PDF(s) were not downloading this would be very helpful.
Page: Compliments, Comments and Complaints
I would like to complain about the level of service received by the residents of Worthing Council...
Whilst I cannot comment on the details of your complaint, I would point out that the comments box at the bottom of each page is not for making complaints. The box is there, as labelled, for passing on website related comments on whether the page helped you in answering what you were looking for, how we can improve the pages and also flagging where we have a page that is doing very well.
All complaints should be made using the methods explained on the Comments, Compliments and Complaints page itself, which includes a link to the Comments, Compliments and Complaints page.
The box at the bottom of the page is an anonymous contact box and when no details to reply to are provided, we have no way of getting in touch.
This website is desperately in need of some online video. There must be some local businesses offering this service.
This is a good point in a number of ways. One, yes the aim of the new website is that we can show good quality images of the town taken by local residents as well. (Please send your submissions to webmaster@worthing.gov.uk if you're interested) but video is also quite a good idea too. We do actually have tucked away a video about Worthing produced last year called Live, Work and Play which is on our Business pages. I will be highlighting this more on the website as it needs to be easier to find.
That said, one of the reasons video has been on the 'back burner' a bit is because until relatively recently video and the web didn't tend to get on well with those on dial-up and/or the need for bulky downloads such as Windows Media Player which Mac users have but is a poor relation to the Windows version. This has changed. Also the web connection the web server has had to the wider world had quite an out of date slow link that was replaced this year so it would have only needed 10 people watching a standard web video to slow down the server considerably. These aren't relevant 'excuses' now but they set the context of what is viewed as essential and what was viewed as being 'nice.'
What do others think, what kind of videos of Worthing and its local residents would you like to see? Are you a YouTube fan and do you think the council could make use of such a resource?
The electoral services page is not loading.
Thank you for letting me know, you are quite right it wasn't. I've now fixed it. We are actively hunting down broken links so if you do find one, let us know.
Page: Local Housing Allowance
Comment: Yes theres a lot of information, but how is worked out? It would be nice to have some idea. Theres a lot of explaination, but not the bit you really need. Please how can people find out what will happen if they need to claim LHA? Can you show how the LHA is applied, helppeoplework it out roughly.
Page: Recycling, Refuse and Waste
Comment: simply wanted to know when refuse would be collected, couldn't find the info.
I will add a small visual picture of wheelie bins to the Recycling and Refuse Days gadget to draw even more attention to it, and further links duplicated across the entire Recycling, Refuse and Waste section. We hope next time a collection day changes that you don't have the same problem finding which day your street has its recycling and refuse collection.
Not a question, just a comment - thankyou for making the bin collection day changes easy to find on the websites front page. Also the recycling and refuse widget on the homepage is brilliant.
I'm glad you have found the Recycling and Refuse Days gadget easy to use and that it's helping you out.
I came here to see which day my bins were now being collected on with the bank hols. Found it by using the recycling and refuse thing [probably means gadget!] on the homepage. My only suggestion is the A to Z Index has very closely related things like Refuse Collection and Refuse - Collection Days, would it be better to have say Refuse - Collection Details??
I agree with your A to Z suggestions too, watch this space! Thanks for the very useful comments.
