Rosa Branson is a benevolent artist who paints large canvases free for charities as fundraising levers.
A portrait painter by trade, she trained at Camberwell School of Art and progressed to the Slade and then the National Gallery where she spent six years studying the techniques of the classical painters.
Rosa’s work has been exhibited at many solo and mixed exhibitions since 1962 and among the many of her paintings unveiled have been works for the Red Cross, Help the Aged, the Salvation Army, Cancer Research, Mercy Ships and the RNIB.
She has been painting non-stop for more than 50 years and sees her charity work as a way of giving something back in return for the fun that painting has given her over the years.
Both paintings are on display in the Town Hall, Chapel Road, Worthing and can be viewed during normal working hours, Monday to Friday.
The painting depicted below is the work of the artist Rosa Branson and commemorates the 60th anniversary of the founding of the London Taxi Benevolent Association for War Disabled.
The Association was formed at the Bedford Arms, Dawes Road, Fulham on 27 February 1948.
Its object then, as now, was to help war disabled persons in their homes and hospitals throughout London and the Home Counties by providing entertainment, outings and much needed specialised equipment.
The first of these outings took place in 1948 – one to Brighton and one to Worthing – when 25 taxis were used to convey 50 war disabled.
Every year since then the Association has arranged an annual outing to Worthing and taxi numbers have increased to around 60, carrying some 120 of their special passengers. Dame Vera Lynn DBE, LLD is patron of the Association.
The painting was loaned to Worthing Borough Council by the Association in 2008.

The painting depicted below is the work of the artist Rosa Branson
and celebrates “100 Years of Women in Public Life: 1907-2007”.
It captures an event held in October 2007 at Worthing Pier Pavilion Theatre hosted by the then Mayor, Councillor Dr. Heather Mercer, and attended by women from all walks of public life, to mark the centenary of the passing of the Qualification of Women (County and Borough Councils) Act 1907 which enabled women to stand for election to County and Borough Councils.
The event not only celebrated 100 years of women in public life but also the many outstanding achievements of women in all sections of the community over the years.
The painting was kindly gifted by the artist to Worthing Borough Council in 2008.
