The focus for the Youth Council during this coming year will be to continue with the work started with Global Action Plan (GAP) looking at saving energy in large public buildings etc. They are hoping to get about the town and will have a presence at various events throughout the year.

They have a strong presence on the cycle forums both at local and County level and will be participating in the Big Bike Sunday on the seafront on 28th August.

Youth Councillors have made contact with our local First and Middle schools and are initiating a poster competition to raise awareness of safe cycling in the town.

All Community panels except one now have a youth council representative, and they are beginning to ensure that the young people of our town have a voice in these very important forums.

Youth Councillors ‘shadow’ their adult counterparts on the Civic Council and have a youth input on decisions made for the good of our town, a very important things particularly during these difficult financial times

This year we have a Youth Mayor and a Deputy Youth Mayor, recognising the growth of this role within the Town.
